When you're up against the Usain Bolts of your industry, do you stand a chance?
Only if you play a different game.
If you try to beat a Usain Bolt in a one-on-one foot race you come up short. But, if you play a team game and tap into the power of your entire ecosystem, you become greater than the sum of the parts. You can upend the champ.
Don't focus on what your competitors do best, focus on what you and your ecosystem do best.
Looks like McKinsey was ahead of the curve
This article is being cited quite a bit lately despite its age.

No one seemed to care when McKinsey wrote it.
But then it started coming true. The house of cards built on the backs of cheaper, automated customer acquisition started wobbling.
While we can squeeze more power out of our silicon to democratize marketing & sales technology, we can't find any more RAM in our attention. Despite (because of?) the advancing tech, we can't keep up.
It seems we are becoming more reliant on our peers, our group, our club, our community. Dare I say our partners and ecosystems?
Sure feels different than a few years ago.
