Open and closed systems
In an open ecosystem, there are many paths to get to where you want to go. In a closed system, there is one path – basic inputs and outputs. It's the difference between a simple machine and a complex biological system.
An ecosystem has multiple paths, networks, and nodes connected in innumerable ways to grow the system as a whole. The interconnectedness emerges naturally as the structure of the ecosystem unfolds.
The old ways of doing business were based on automation and scalability. But the old ways eroded trust.
You have to start with trust. Trust has to emerge naturally from the bottom up. You can't force it from the top down.
When I think of all the big deals that I’ve made, they have to do with the relationships I’ve cultivated in my ecosystem – not cold outreach, no matter how creative.
Sustainable growth is based on trust and interdependence. Future businesses will grow by fostering nodes of trust in the ecosystem.
