PartnerHacker Daily #41: Forbes Says Ecosystems are the Future

For organizations to become partner-centric and ecosystem-focused, CEOs and top-level execs need to understand how important this shift will be. Life’s too short to work for a CEO who doesn’t care about partnerships.

The time is now

For organizations to become partner-centric and ecosystem-focused, CEOs and top-level execs need to understand how important this shift will be.

Life’s too short to work for a CEO who doesn’t care about partnerships.

If you’re a partner leader, you need to get your C-suite on board. If you’re a C-suite, you need to understand and adapt to this shift before it happens.

Right now, we’re in an in-between period where the dominoes haven’t fallen and the cascade has not yet begun.

Now is a great time to understand and adapt to this coming shift.

Listen to Forbes

A year ago, Forbes published an article called, Why Ecosystem Firms are the Future.

Here’s the gist.

There are three types of firms:

  1. Value chain
  2. Platform
  3. Ecosystem

Each of them has its strengths and weaknesses. Ecosystem firms, though, have unparalleled advantages.

Ecosystems are a “way of providing adjacent products or services” through collaboration. This means that they can “solve a broader set of customer needs.”

The difference between the current systems and the systems offered by ecosystems is interaction.

Right now, companies and customers can get away with transacting, but not interacting. There’s nothing that brings them in, that compels them to stay for longer.

That’s where ecosystems come in. Ecosystems create a type of gravitational pull. They “gain value from network effects, virality, and learning.”

Instead of luring customers in, orgs attract them.

This attraction/gravitation pull consists of three pillars:

  1. Participants
  2. Contributors/Partners
  3. Market Makers
