A fun exercise in words and meaning
There's a lot of inside lingo in the partnerships world. Acronyms and phrases only known by practitioners.
These are useful shortcuts for shared understanding. But it's easy for the symbol to become detached from the thing it symbolizes. Every so often, I find it useful to catch myself buzzwording, pause, and attempt to make the same point using only language my mom could understand.
It's surprisingly hard, but every time I get a little insight.
Now, on to some acronyms! ;-)
First GTM, now PMF? Sacred cows on notice
Allan Adler is at it again going after sacred cows in SaaS. The beloved Product Market Fit (PMF) is a holy grail of startups.
We all generally agree that PMF is focused on the Ideal Customer Profile, or ICP.
But ain't that a bit too myopic?
Allan introduces "Solution-Ecosystem Fit" that takes into consideration the sphere of influence around the ICP.

It's a must read.
Though Jared has a small beef with this one.
He contends you need to first win in another ecosystem before building your own.
Allan Adler bonus content
(What can we say, the man is a machine.)
McKinsey had a nice post on ecosystems. Allan had a nice summary of it.
Fact of the Day
The current market value of the top 10 SaaS companies is equal to 5% of total US GDP for 2021 ($1.1T).
