The best analogy in partnerships

Every partnership is like a romantic relationship.

When I was first getting into partnerships, I leaned on the only "partnership" I really understood: my marriage. I started seeing similarities between the two, and it helped me to become a better partner person.

Here are a few ways business partnerships are similar to your IRL partnerships:

  • Everything begins and ends with follow-through
  • Just because it makes sense doesn’t mean it’s going to happen
  • Trust makes or breaks the long-term success of your relationship
  • If you want something to last, you have to think big-picture about why you’re partnering
  • Partnerships are a shared experience
  • The more friction points that develop, the less likely the partnership will bear fruit
  • Communication is vital to success
